You may think you see out of your eyes, but it takes enormous processing power to produce that illusion. The world that you see ”out there” is really an ever-changing pattern of electrical impulses inside your own head, the one place you can’t see.
- Ian Stewart & Jack Cohen - the Collapse of Chaos

When your brain can’t trust your eyes, it has to make some decisions. Should it act on the information from your eyes, or reject that information and instead use the input from other body senses?

Hierarchies serve an important function. They enable complete strangers to know how to treat one another without wasting the time and energy needed to become personally acquainted.

"Scientists have been asking the wrong questions.
They have focused upon complexity as the thing that requires explanation, and they have taken simplicity for granted. The answer to complexity turns out to be fairly obvious and not, in itself, especially interesting. If you have a lot of simple interactors, and let them interact, then the end result can be rather complicated.
The interesting question is precisely the opposite, the question that most scientists never thought to ask because they didn’t see that there was a question to ask. Where does the simplicity come from?”

A diagnosis of “autistic behaviours” is dangerous because once reported, it leads to misinterpretation of all atypical strategies as “autistic” and the infant/child will not be referred to a thorough clinical and functional assessment. Sometimes even when referred, the child is not thoroughly assessed because the child’s communication is misunderstood by doctors not seeing the strategies of blind.
